Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh has reacted to YSRCP leader Gudivada Amarnath’s comments on Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha’s appearance, calling them “unfortunate and disrespectful towards women.” Lokesh was reacting to a viral video of Amarnath, in which he is seen mocking the Home Minister at a public gathering, referring to her as a “makeup minister” and making remarks about her wearing “kilos of makeup” at public events. Read Full Story Slamming Amarnath’s “disgraceful and misogynist” comments, Lokesh said the former Industries minister’s remarks reflect the YSRCP’s “true character.” He further questioned YSRCP chief and former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s silence on the issue. He also alleged that Jagan Mohan Reddy had earlier appreciated Amarnath’s remarks, and asked whether he would respond similarly if such comments were made against his wife Bharathi Reddy or his daughters. ‘TARGETING A DALIT WOMAN’ The disgraceful misogynist remarks made against Home Minister Smt. Vangalapudi Anitha Garu expose the true character of YSRCP. When YSRCP has no answers on its failed 5 years of governance, law and order, or development, it falls back on Lokesh Nara (@naralokesh) June 16, 2026 “Targeting a woman and a Dalit leader holding a constitutional office is not an isolated incident; it reflects the toxic political culture nurtured under YSRCP,” he wrote on X.
He added that Anitha’s journey is one of hard work, courage, and public service, and that no amount of abuse from YSRCP leaders can diminish her achievements or silence her voice. “YSRCP must apologise to Anitha Garu and to every woman and every Dalit who has been insulted by such shameful conduct,” he added. LOKESH CONTRASTS REACTIONS The TDP leader recalled that YSRCP leaders had targeted his mother and wife while in power, while drawing a contrast between the current coalition government’s approach and that of the previous regime. He claimed that after the NDA government assumed office, a TDP worker who posted objectionable content against the former CM’s wife was sent to judicial remand, citing it as an example of the party’s commitment to respecting women. HOME MINISTER REACTS Earlier today, the Home Minister strongly condemned the YSRCP leader for what she described as a “vile, casteist” attack made against her during a public meeting, alleging that the comments were intended to humiliate her as a woman and a member of the Dalit community holding a constitutional position.
What a YSRCP leader said about me on camera, at a public meeting was not merely an insult. It was a vile, casteist attack aimed at humiliating a woman and a Dalit holding a constitutional office. The language he used is so disgraceful that it cannot even be repeated in public. pic.twitter.com/dm7znnCeS3— Anitha Vangalapudi (@Anitha_TDP) June 16, 2026 Reposting the viral video featuring Amarnath’s comments, Vangalapudi said the remarks were so “disgraceful” that they could not be repeated publicly, and accused the YSRCP of fostering a culture that normalises such behaviour. “I have faced such attacks throughout my life, and every one of them has only strengthened my resolve,” she wrote on X. She added that the attack reflected an attempt to intimidate her after failing to challenge her politically, asserting that she would not be silenced or deterred in her public service. LOKESH SLAMS AMARNATH’S PERFORMANCE Lokesh, the son of Andhra CM N Chandrababu Naidu, also criticised Amarnath’s performance as industries minister under the YSRCP government.
