The remarks came as he concluded his four-day visit to Beijing, which came close to the heels of his trip to India. “My visit was to indicate the importance that we give to both countries, and we want to build on our existing relationship and also make it stronger and better and deeper than what has been in the past," Khanal told state-run the Global Times.

During his official visit to China, the minister held comprehensive and in-depth talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi and senior political leaders, with discussions focused on boosting bilateral ties, areas of connectivity, border management, trade, technology transfer and multilateral cooperation. “We also exchanged views on expanding people to people ties and reaffirmed shared commitment to further strengthening Nepal–China relations for mutual benefit of our two countries", Khanal wrote in a post on ‘X’. Asked whether his visits to India and China intended to strike a balance between Nepal’s two biggest neighbours, Khanal highlighted that the two countries were “vital partners" to Kathmandu. During his visit to India, the Nepali Foreign Minister had asserted that the government –– led by Prime Minister Balendra ‘Balen’ Shah –– would accord “highest priority" to relations with India, PTI reported. The Balen Shah Era In March this year, the four-year-old Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), led by rapper-turned-politician Balendra ‘Balen’ Shah, achieved a sweeping majority in the Nepal General Election –– held for the first time since last year’s youth-led protests toppled the then government. The RSP brought an end to the prolonged rule of pro-China Communist parties, and subsequently, Shah was appointed as the Prime Minister.
