Six women were killed, and three people were injured in a road crash involving an e-rickshaw and a tractor in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. According to officials, the e-rickshaw was carrying nine people at the time of the incident. It had been hired by a group of women who were headed for a pre-wedding ceremony. The accident occurred in the Budaun district. Police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the accident and immediately launched rescue and relief operations.

Drivers of two tractors have been arrested by the police in connection with the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that the e-rickshaw driver was attempting to avoid a tractor when the lightweight vehicle collided with another tractor coming from the opposite direction at high speed, Budaun District Magistrate Avnish Rai said. The women who lost their lives have been identified as 30-year-old Narayani (30), 30-year-old Aarti, 32-year-old Prema, 32-year-old Gangashri alias Sarla, 50-year-old Raju Kumari, and 80-year-old Revati.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives. In a statement issued by his office on X, he said, "The loss of lives due to a mishap in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, is deeply painful. I extend my condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured." UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also conveyed condolences to the bereaved families. "The loss of lives in the unfortunate road accident in Budaun district is extremely heartbreaking.
