Delayed Monsoon: BMC Halts Water to Mumbai Construction Sites as Lake Levels Plunge to 10%
Amid a delayed monsoon in Mumbai attributed to the El Niño effect, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stopped water supply to all construction sites
Amid a delayed monsoon in Mumbai attributed to the El Niño effect, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stopped water supply to all construction sites in the city. The seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai have only ten per cent of their capacity remaining. This decision has raised concerns among real estate developers regarding its impact on construction labourers, who rely on BMC water for drinking and bathing purposes.
While construction activities use tanker water, real estate project managers warn that a complete stoppage of municipal supply could lead to a halt in projects and delay the possession of flats. Tanker operators are also facing supply challenges due to depleting water levels in ring wells and borewells.
