The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) has introduced an experimental AI-enabled identification and sorting machine in Tamil Nadu to address the issue of extra money being illegally charged over the maximum retail price (MRP) for liquor bottles. The automated machine allows consumers to return empty bottles, scan a QR code, and receive an instant digital refund of ten rupees per bottle directly into their UPI-linked accounts.
The recycling mechanism displays registered bottles and corresponding refunds on a digital screen, providing a modern technology-driven solution to manage liquor bottle sales and returns in the state.
