Amid growing speculation of a potential split, leaders of the Shiv Sena (UBT) have approached the Lok Sabha Speaker to submit a formal caveat. The party representatives requested that no breakaway group of their parliamentarians be recognised as a separate entity without prior consultation, citing constitutional provisions and anti-defection rules. The preemptive move comes amid intense rumours that several party parliamentarians might defect to the rival faction.
During media interactions, a senior party leader alleged that a massive financial operation is underway, claiming that advances of fifteen crore rupees have been offered to facilitate the defections. The leader also suggested that the rival faction's leadership lacks the independent capability to orchestrate such a political coup, hinting at the involvement of a larger political power. Despite the ongoing turbulence and reports of internal anger, party representatives maintain that their parliamentarians remain united.
A parliamentary party meeting has been convened to address the situation and ensure unity among the members.
