Vijay Shendge, the deputy chief of Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Malegaon taluka unit in Washim district, posted a message on Facebook warning Deshmukh against switching camps without first resigning from his Lok Sabha seat. In the social media post, Shendge said that if Deshmukh wanted to join the Shinde-led Shiv Sena, he should first resign as an MP since he was elected with the support of Shiv Sena (UBT) workers.
He further warned that Deshmukh should not visit Washim if he changed parties without resigning, and allegedly threatened that he would be “burned along with his vehicle" if he did so. The remarks came amid growing speculation over another rebillion within the UBT camp. The buzz intensified after reports emerged that several party MPs are likely to meet Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in New Delhi on Wednesday. Despite the clarification, rumours of defections continued after party MP Sanjay Deshmukh met Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav from the Shinde camp. Deshmukh later said the meeting was non-political.
