(You can now subscribe to our (You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump exchanged pleasantries and held a brief conversation at the G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, on Tuesday, marking their first in-person encounter in more than 16 months.Visuals from the summit showed the two leaders warmly shaking hands before engaging in a brief interaction.The interaction came as G7 leaders and partner countries gathered to discuss pressing global issues, including economic challenges, ongoing conflicts and efforts to promote stability in the Middle East.India is attending the summit as an invited partner country.
The G7 comprises France, the US, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and the UK, while India, Brazil, Kenya, South Korea and the UAE have been invited to participate in select discussions.According to Bloomberg, Modi is also holding bilateral meetings with the leaders of Canada, the
UK and the UAE on the sidelines of the summit. The discussions are expected to cover trade, strategic cooperation and regional developments.Analysts cited by Bloomberg said the meetings are unlikely to produce major announcements but will highlight India's strategy of broadening diplomatic and economic
partnerships while deepening engagement with key global powers.Prime Minister Modi and President Trump are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting on Wednesday on the sidelines of the summit, as per PTI. Modi is also expected to meet several other world leaders during the gathering.
