US Vice President JD Vance at 'The View' show. Days after US President Donald Trump sparked controversy by saying, “I love the inflation," Vice President JD Vance said Trump “knows that a lot of Americans are struggling." The remark drew mockery from interview panellists, who asked Vance: “Are you his interpreter or his vice president?" In a morning talk show, “The View," Alyssa Farah, Ana Navarro and Joy Behar started the segment by asking Vance about the economy. To this, the Vice President replied that the administration has “made good progress" on lowering inflation.
When Navarro pointed out Trump’s “I love inflation" remarks, Vance said: “What he said is that he loves the fact that the inflation is going to come down when this war is over." In response, one of the panellists, Joy Behar, pushed back saying, “That’s not what he said. Are you his interpreter, or are you his vice president?" And what he said is, I love the inflation because it’s going to come down when the war is over," Vance replied.
This remark refers to Trump’s remarks last week. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump dismissed concerns over the latest figures released by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, saying the “numbers were great" and insisting rising prices would soon ease. “No, I love it. I love the inflation," Trump said when asked about the data showing annual inflation at 4.2%, the highest level since 2023. “You know what I really love? I love the inflation." The latest CPI report revealed that inflation increased to 4.2% in May, driven largely by higher energy costs linked to global supply disruptions. It marks the fastest pace of price growth since April 2023. While linking his outlook to the US war with Iran, the President said the inflation would “come down like a rock" once the war ended.
