ED Summons 9 Kashmir Hoteliers Over Roshni Scam As J&K Govt Faces Heat Over Silence
The Enforcement Directorate has summoned nine prominent hoteliers from the Kashmir Valley, including the president of the Hoteliers Club and representatives of a major hotel
The Enforcement Directorate has summoned nine prominent hoteliers from the Kashmir Valley, including the president of the Hoteliers Club and representatives of a major hotel group. Sources indicate the investigation involves money laundering and financial irregularities in Gulmarg, indirectly linked to the Roshni land scam. The Roshni Act, introduced in the early 2000s to raise funds for hydropower projects, generated only 75 crore rupees against a target of 25,000 crore rupees.
Following investigations by the High Court and the CBI, the act was scrapped and a land retrieval process began. However, properties in Gulmarg remain on Roshni-acquired land. Additionally, 95 percent of properties in Gulmarg and Pahalgam are operating on expired leases without paying taxes or fees to the state exchequer. Activists are questioning the Conference government over its lack of action against these hoteliers, who had previously withdrawn their High Court pleas regarding eviction notices.
The Enforcement Directorate has directed the hoteliers to produce relevant documents as the investigation continues.
