What followed was an intense military confrontation between the two nations, which came to a halt following a ceasefire in May 2025. Now, a Pakistani military officer has claimed that two Indian airbases were hit during the recent tensions — only the locations he mentioned do not really exist!
The controversy erupted after Pakistan Air Force officer Air Commodore Aurangzeb Ahmed said, “We were assigned two targets, Rajouri Airbase and Mamun Airbase, and we successfully engaged them". While Rajouri is a district in Jammu and Kashmir, it has no airbase. Mamun, on the other hand, is indeed a military cantonment in Punjab’s Pathankot. On May 10, 2025, the Pakistani forces also used the Fatah-1 guided artillery rocket, which was successfully intercepted and destroyed by India’s air defence network.

The Pakistani official came under an intense scrutiny over his hollow remarks, with netizens questioning him when the airbases he mentioned were actually built. “Archaeologists, cartographers, Google maps, and the Indian air force have launched a joint mission to locate legendary “Rajouri airbase and Mamun airbase", one user wrote. “Fateh-1 hits Rajouri and Mamun airbases so hard that they cease to even exist! Next Target: Atlantis"? wrote another user. “Guess what, I live in Jammu and there is no such base in Rajouri. I never heard of it. Yes, there’s an advance air base but nope, it’s not useful", wrote a third user. The remarks reportedly came as Pakistan continues to boast its military actions linked to heightened hostilities with India last year.
