A SpiceJet staff member was involved in a heated verbal altercation with passengers, including shouting abuses at them, following the cancellation of a flight at West Bengal's Bagdogra Airport last week. The airline has suspended the female employee after a video of the confrontation went viral on social media. The footage shows heated exchanges between SpiceJet staff and passengers as security personnel attempted to bring the situation under control.
Travellers alleged that repeated delays and the eventual cancellation of the Delhi-bound flight on June 13 triggered frustration and unrest at the airport. SpiceJet has taken necessary disciplinary action against the staff member. She has been served with immediate suspension of services and sent to refresher training," the airline said in a statement.
SpiceJet said the flight was cancelled following a series of operational challenges, including adverse weather conditions that forced the aircraft to initially divert to Kolkata. One of the passengers, Noman Shaikh, said flight SG 151 was scheduled to depart at 4.10 pm but faced repeated delays throughout the day. "We were informed that the flight would depart at 10 pm. However, later in the evening, we were told that it had been cancelled," Shaikh said.
He further alleged that passengers were served undercooked rice and that no accommodation arrangements were made after the cancellation. The situation escalated when passengers confronted airline staff over the disruption, leading to a public exchange of abuses at Bagdogra Airport. Ends
