4 Killed As Israeli Strikes Continue In Lebanon Despite US-Iran Deal Covering Hezbollah War Published By Last Updated: June 16, 2026, 22:41 IST Israeli drone strikes targeted two vehicles in the town of Mayfadoun and another in nearby Shukeen in the Nabatieh area. (AFP photo) At least four people were killed in southern Lebanon on Tuesday as Israeli strikes continued despite the newly announced US-Iran agreement that includes an end to fighting involving Hezbollah. According to Lebanon’s state-run News Agency (NNA), Israeli drone strikes targeted two vehicles in the town of Mayfadoun and another in nearby Shukeen in the Nabatieh area. The attacks killed at least four people and wounded several others. The latest deaths come despite a framework agreement announced by Washington and Tehran aimed at ending the war that has engulfed the Middle East since February.
While violence in Lebanon has eased since the deal was unveiled, Israeli strikes in the country’s south have killed at least five people since Monday, according to Lebanese media. Israel Says Strikes Followed Rocket Fire The Israeli military said it carried out the strikes after intercepting rockets allegedly fired by Hezbollah at Israeli troops operating in southern Lebanon. In a statement, the military said several rockets were intercepted before the Israeli Air Force targeted and destroyed the launcher used in the attack. It also said another strike was carried out against what it described as a suspicious vehicle near an area where Israeli soldiers were operating. The exchange comes as the US-Iran agreement reportedly calls for a permanent halt to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, although the full text of the deal has not yet been released. Hezbollah Praises Iran’s Role Earlier, Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem thanked Iran’s top negotiator and parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf for helping secure what he described as an end to “Israeli-American aggression" against Lebanon.
In a message published by Hezbollah, Qassem expressed “profound gratitude" for Iran’s efforts to bring about an immediate and permanent halt to military operations, including those in Lebanon. He said Iran had consistently supported Hezbollah and the Lebanese people, adding that Tehran had played a key role in turning hopes for an end to the conflict into reality. Hezbollah entered the war on March 2 by launching rockets at Israel following the killing of Iran’s supreme leader in US-Israeli strikes. Israel responded with a large-scale air campaign and a ground offensive that Lebanese authorities say has killed more than 3,800 people.
