Update VAHAN details to avoid missing e-challans, says Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sajjanar

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar has urged vehicle owners in the city to update their mobile numbers and e-mail addresses on the VAHAN portal to ensure they receive traffic e-challans and other official notifications without delay. In an advisory issued on Tuesday (June 16, 2026), the Commissioner said the police department is using SMS, WhatsApp and e-mail services to send traffic violation notices, e-challans and pre-notifications directly to motorists.
However, outdated or incorrect contact information on the VAHAN database often prevents vehicle owners from receiving these alerts. “This lack of communication often leads to delayed payments, resulting in an accumulation of heavy penalties. By keeping contact details updated, vehicle owners can stay informed in real-time and avoid the burden of unexpected fines,” he said.
Vehicle owners have been advised to register or update their current mobile numbers and e-mail IDs through the official VAHAN portal. Sajjanar also highlighted that under existing government regulations, any e-challan sent to the mobile number or e-mail address registered on the VAHAN portal is legally considered to have been served to the vehicle owner.
As a result, claims of not receiving a notification may not be accepted if the details available in the system are outdated.
