Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi conducted an extensive tour of Vijayawada on Tuesday (June 16, 2026). During his visit, he reviewed key railway infrastructure projects, paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, visited the Sri Kanaka Durga Temple, and interacted with intellectuals, professionals, and prominent citizens. The Minister began his visit by paying floral tributes to the statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park. He later inspected the ongoing development works at the Rayanapadu Satellite Railway Station and reviewed the progress of modernisation initiatives being undertaken by the Railways.
Officials informed him that nearly ₹35 crore had been spent on upgrading the station and improving passenger amenities. Speaking to the media, Mr. Joshi highlighted the Narendra Modi government’s focus on infrastructure development over the past 12 years. He stated that Indian Railways was steadily moving towards complete electrification, which would reduce dependence on imported fuel and promote environmentally sustainable transportation. The Minister announced that the Centre had allocated ₹10,144 crore for railway infrastructure development in Andhra Pradesh during the 2026-27 financial year. Reiterating the Centre’s commitment to the development of Amaravati, Mr. Joshi said that substantial assistance had been extended for capital city infrastructure and connectivity projects.
He expressed confidence that enhanced railway links connecting Amaravati with major cities across the country would accelerate economic growth and attract investment. During his visit, Mr. Joshi also inspected the proposed West Bypass project and reviewed its progress with officials of the Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Later, he visited the Sri Kanaka Durga Temple atop Indrakeeladri and offered special prayers. The temple authorities welcomed him with traditional honours and presented him with sacred prasadam and a portrait of the presiding deity. The Union Minister also visited the noted classical musician Sri Lalitha at her residence and felicitated her for her contributions to devotional music dedicated to Goddess Kanaka Durga.
In the evening, Joshi participated in an interactive session organised by the Andhra Pradesh BJP and the Rotary Club of Vijayawada. BJP Andhra Pradesh president P.V.N. Madhav, Vijayawada West MLA Sujana Chowdary and others were present.
