Reacting to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s comments criticising the Opposition for not backing the Delimitation Bill despite the government’s assurance that the strength of every State in the Lok Sabha would increase by 50%, the Congress pointed out that no such amendment was ever moved by the government. In a post quoting Mr. Naidu’s interview to a daily, Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh said the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister was being “unfair” to the Opposition.
He added that on April 16, the TDP had suggested an amendment to the Delimitation Bill, proposing a blanket 50% increase in the Lok Sabha seats for all States while maintaining the current proportionality. Ramesh said in a post on X, “But the super-confident, super-arrogant Union Home Minister never actually moved such an amendment that the TDP was asking for. That is the REAL question—what devious games was the self-declared Chanakya—who stood brutally exposed on the evening of April 17, 2026—playing?” Naidu was quoted as saying that the intention of the government was clear from the beginning and that it had stated on the floor of the House that there would be a 50% increase in seats across States without altering the proportion of seats.
He said it was only an omission from the text of the Bill and that the Opposition had unnecessarily made it an issue. Ramesh also took a dig at the
TDP, pointing out that the Andhra Pradesh-based party is no longer the biggest NDA ally. “Now the TDP has been overshadowed by an obscure Nationalist Citizen Party of India,” he said.
