(X) In a significant step in India’s push for indigenous defence capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed the final development trials of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 in both air-to-ground and air-to-air modes. The trials were conducted in both Air-to-Ground and Air-to-Air modes using an integrated ground control system (GCS) to command and control the ULPGM weapon system at the DRDO test range near Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, news agency PTI reported, citing officials.

“The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed the final deliverable configuration development trials of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 in air-to-ground and air-to-air modes," the defence ministry said in a statement. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also congratulated the DRDO, PSUs, defence-cum-production partners and industry stakeholders for the successful development trials of the ULPGM-V3 in air-to-ground mode for anti-tank role and air-to-air mode for drone, helicopter and other airborne targets. He termed it a strategic milestone achieved towards ‘aatmanirbharta’ in defence. All About The ULPGM-V3 The ULPGM-V3, also called the ULM-ER (Extended Range), is an Indian-made precision missile designed to be launched from drones. It can accurately strike both stationary and moving targets on the ground as well as in the air without requiring further guidance after launch.

The ULPGM-V3 has been developed by Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, as the nodal lab, in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories, including Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad; Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Chandigarh; and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune. Officials said the Defence Research and Development Organisation worked with Bharat Dynamics Limited and Adani Defence Systems & Technologies Limited to develop and manufacture the missile. The missile system has been fitted onto drones developed by Newspace Research and Technologies for the ongoing trials. The ministry said that the missile has been built entirely within India’s defence manufacturing network, with support from many MSMEs and other companies. According to the Defence Ministry, the successful trials showed that India now has a strong local supply chain capable of producing the missiles on a large scale immediately.
