A three-and-a-half-year-old girl was attacked by a pack of eight to ten stray dogs in north Bengaluru’s Sahakarnagar on Sunday, resulting in deep bite injuries. The victim, the daughter of a migrant worker, was playing on a street in Sahakarnagar at around 4 p.m. on Sunday when the incident occurred. CCTV footage shows at least three dogs pouncing on the child, with more stray dogs joining the attack later.
A woman standing at a distance noticed the commotion and rushed to her rescue, scaring the dogs away. A source from the North Corporation told The Hindu that the girl was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition after treatment. He said she sustained multiple wounds on her hands, legs, and other parts of her body. Officials will have to follow up on her vaccination.
“We have captured four dogs so far and kept them in an observation centre to monitor them and identify the aggressive ones. A few more are yet to be captured, and we are working on that,” the official said. The video of the attack was widely shared on social media, with users calling out corporation officials for neglecting the issue and questioning the safety of citizens.
Meanwhile, Sneha, a resident of the locality, pointed out that the implementation of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme in the area was inadequate and that the locality had not been fully covered. However, the official said implementation was a continuous process and was being carried out.
