Twisha, a 33-year-old actor from Noida was found dead on May 12 at the Bhopal residence of her husband, lawyer Samarth Singh, located in the Katara Hills area. Following the incident, police registered a case against Samarth Singh and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, under charges of dowry harassment and abetment of suicide. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been constituted to probe the allegations further. Ten days after model and actor Twisha Sharma was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal, her family has written to the Bhopal Police Commissioner seeking the immediate arrest of her husband Samarth Singh, who remains untraceable.
In a detailed letter, Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma questioned why no arrest has been made despite a dowry death case being registered at Katara Hills Police Station. The family alleged that the delay was raising concerns over the fairness and transparency of the investigation. Demand For Proclamation, Property Attachment The family urged police to initiate proclamation and property attachment proceedings against Samarth Singh if he is deliberately evading arrest. The letter also sought scrutiny of his digital activity, banking transactions, travel details and communication records to trace his whereabouts. Calling the case “highly sensitive", the family said no person should receive special treatment under the law irrespective of social or professional status. The representation was sent to several senior officials, including the Madhya Pradesh DGP, Bhopal Police Commissioner, Cyber Crime Cell and AIIMS Bhopal authorities. NCW Takes Cognisance The latest development comes after Twisha’s mother in law, retired judge Giribala Singh, secured interim bail in the case.
She is among the accused named in the FIR related to alleged dowry harassment and death. The matter gained wider attention after Giribala Singh publicly made claims regarding Twisha’s mental health and personal life, including allegations that she was undergoing psychiatric treatment and had undergone an abortion earlier. Twisha’s family strongly objected to the remarks and accused the in laws of attempting to malign her image after death. The Commission for Women has also taken suo motu cognisance of the matter. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar criticised the “character assassination" of Twisha Sharma and sought an Action Taken Report from Madhya Pradesh authorities. Family Seeks Better Coordination With SIT In the letter, the family also demanded better coordination with the Special Investigation Team and requested official contact details of officers handling the case. It further asked police to appoint a nodal officer to ensure proper communication with the family and to examine all evidence and documents submitted by them.
Twisha’s family has repeatedly alleged lapses in the investigation and earlier approached court seeking a second post mortem, a plea that was rejected. The family is now considering moving the High Court. Samarth Singh has remained missing since Twisha Sharma’s death. Police have not yet announced any breakthrough regarding his whereabouts.
