Khalid is currently lodged in jail in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots larger conspiracy case. The court granted the bail days after his interim bail plea was rejected by the trial court. Khalid will be out on bail from June 1 till June 3. He will also attend the Chehlum ceremony of his uncle, who passed away last month.

The Court noted that Umar Khalid had earlier complied with interim bail conditions granted for family events, and despite observing that he is “one of the key conspirators" in the case, granted him limited interim relief in view of his mother’s health condition. While granting interim relief, the court imposed several conditions on Khalid’s movement during the bail period. The High Court directed that he must remain at his designated residential address and can visit only the hospital where his mother is admitted. The court made it clear that Khalid would not be permitted to travel to any other location apart from the hospital and his residence. He has also been directed to remain within the Capital Region (NCR) during the period of interim bail. As part of the bail conditions, Khalid has been asked to furnish a surety bond of ₹1 lakh.

The court further directed that he will use only one mobile phone number during the interim bail period. What Umar Khalid Said In His Plea In his plea before the trial court, Umar Khalid stated that his uncle, Khursheed Ahmad Khan, passed away on April 10, with the Chehlum ceremony scheduled to be held in Delhi on May 24. He also informed the court that his mother has been facing health issues and has been advised to undergo a lump excision surgery at a private hospital on June 2. The application further said that Khalid’s elderly father, aged 71, was not physically capable of caring for his ailing wife, NDTV reported. It added that Khalid’s five sisters are married and no longer reside at the family home. Describing him as the eldest child and only son in the family, the plea argued that his presence was necessary to support and assist his mother during her medical treatment and recovery period.

Khalid was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with the alleged conspiracy behind the communal violence that broke out in northeast Delhi in February 2020.
