Dattagalli blaze: Hotel owners’ association seeks ₹50 lakh relief for kin of deceased workers
The Mysuru District and City Hotel Owners’ Association has demanded a compensation package of ₹50 lakh for families of the workers who lost their lives
The Mysuru District and City Hotel Owners’ Association has demanded a compensation package of ₹50 lakh for families of the workers who lost their lives in the fire accident at a restobar in Dattagalli here on Monday. The association president, C. Narayana Gowda, urged the establishment owner to provide ₹25 lakh compensation and called on the State government to contribute an additional ₹25 lakh, taking the total relief to ₹50 lakh for each family.
Describing the tragedy as deeply distressing, Mr. Gowda said the victims, aged between 24 and 26, were migrant workers from Darjeeling and Nepal who had come to Mysuru in search of employment. Expressing concern over the plight of the victims’ families, he called for immediate financial assistance and urged authorities to make arrangements for the transportation of the bodies to their native places. The association also sought a comprehensive review of safety standards and regulatory oversight in pubs and restobars across the city.
Mr. Gowda alleged that excise licences are often issued to inexperienced operators. Calling for impartial inspections of establishments operating under CL-2, CL-7 and CL-9 licences, he stressed the need to verify compliance with fire safety and other statutory norms. The association demanded a ban on highly combustible decorative materials such as dry grass, bamboo, thatch and wooden installations that are frequently used in themed pubs and restaurants. Gowda said inadequate knowledge regarding the installation and placement of LPG cylinders, electrical systems and kitchen infrastructure poses serious risks.
He maintained that regular monitoring by the Mysuru City Corporation, Fire and Emergency Services Department, CESC and the Excise Department is essential to prevent similar incidents. Holding regulatory agencies accountable for enforcing safety standards, the association urged the government to strengthen inspections and safety audits to ensure that such tragedies do not recur.
