The Indian government has ordered Apple and Google to delist the Telegram app from their respective stores amid concerns over medical exam fraud. The Ministry of Information Technology and the Testing Agency have restricted the use of Telegram until June 22, the day after the NEET examination. The application's editing feature has been disabled because fraudsters and scammers have widely used it to share fake NEET question papers on social media.
A cyber expert explained that Telegram is frequently used by scammers due to its anonymity, as it does not require an attached identification or phone number, unlike other messaging platforms. This anonymity allows individuals to distribute prohibited content and sell fake papers without being easily traced. The restriction aims to help agencies track down the sources of the leaks and limit the spread of fake news and fraudulent activities related to the upcoming medical entrance examination.
