The Indian government has temporarily blocked the Telegram app until June 22 to prevent the spread of misinformation ahead of the NEET re-examination scheduled for June 21. The Testing Agency stated that cheating networks exploited Telegram's message editing feature to create fake paper leak narratives. Fraudsters allegedly edited old posts to attach actual question papers after previous exams concluded, retaining the original timestamps to mislead students and demand money.
To ensure a fair re-examination and restore the trust of lakhs of medical aspirants, authorities have disabled Telegram's editing feature for existing posts until June 30 and activated a dedicated cyber surveillance network. Additionally, unprecedented security measures are being implemented for the retest. The Indian Air Force is airlifting the question papers, while CRPF and CISF personnel are being deployed at examination centres across the country to maintain strict security and prevent any irregularities.
