In a big development in the Twisha Sharma death case, the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday directed that the second post-mortem should be conducted by a team of AIIMS Delhi doctors in Bhopal. The family members of Twisha had approached the High Court seeking a second autopsy after their request was denied by a lower court. The family of the victim had alleged technical lapses in the investigation and also raised the issue of a three-day delay in filing the FIR. According to their plea, the investigators had failed to provide the belt allegedly used in the hanging when the first postmortem examination was conducted.
Twisha’s lawyer had also raised concern over no detailed mention of the injuries found on her body in the post-mortem report. Court Dismisses Plea For Second Autopsy The High Court’s order came days after a Bhopal trial court turned down a plea seeking a second post-mortem and forensic examination of Twisha Sharma’s body at AIIMS Delhi. In its order rejecting the May 19 application, the lower court had expressed concern over the condition and preservation of the body, which has been kept in the mortuary of AIIMS Bhopal since May 13. In another major development on Friday, the Madhya Pradesh government also agreed to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), fulfilling one of the key demands raised by the family since the beginning of the probe. Husband To Surrender Samarth Singh, the husband of Twisha Sharma who has allegedly been on the run since her death 10 days ago, moved the Delhi High Court seeking permission to surrender before the trial court in the case. On May 12, 33-year-old model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her marital home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. The family members of the Sharma accused her in-laws of dowry harassment. Meanwhile, the Singhs claimed that she was addicted to drugs.
An FIR was registered by the police under Sections 80(2), 85, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita along with relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act, and her husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh were named as accused.
