Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Évian, France, to attend the G7 Summit. He has been invited as a guest country representative, marking India's consistent participation for the past eight years since 2019. The summit will feature a meeting between PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, alongside an expected bilateral meeting with United States President Donald Trump. India's inclusion highlights its growing economic power and its role as a leading voice for the Global South, developing nations, Asia, and Africa.
The G7 comprises the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, Germany, and Italy. The summit takes place against the backdrop of the West Asia war, with President Trump indicating a peace deal is expected to be officially signed on Friday, even as Israel continues bombing Lebanon. South Africa has not been invited to this year's summit. PM Modi will participate in a high-level working session themed 'Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity'.
