(File photo) As the probe intensifies into the Twisha Sharma death case, her husband, Samarth Singh, on Friday evening arrived at the Jabalpur district court in Madhya Pradesh to surrender. The accused husband had been on the run since the woman’s death 10 days ago. Singh reached the court to surrender, PTI reported, citing his lawyer Mrigendra Singh.
Earlier, Singh had approached the Delhi High Court seeking permission to surrender before the trial court in connection with the case. Twisha Sharma, who had tied the knot with Singh in December last year, was found dead at her marital house in Bhopal on May 12 under suspicious circumstances. Samarth Singh Withdraws Anticipatory Bail Plea Earlier in the day, Singh, who has been booked in an alleged case of dowry death, withdrew his anticipatory bail plea from the Madhya Pradesh High Court. He withdrew his anticipatory bail application plea from the single bench of the HC comprising Justice Avanindra Kumar Singh, his counsel Jaydeep Kaurav said. Following the withdrawal of the plea, Singh had no option but to surrender before the authorities.
The anticipatory bail petition had been moved before the HC on Thursday after a lower court rejected his request last week. Accused Mother-In-Law Gets Anticipatory Bail Meanwhile, Singh’s mother, Giribala Singh, who is also named in the FIR, secured anticipatory bail from a Bhopal court last week. A retired district and sessions judge, she currently serves as the chairperson of the Bhopal Consumer Court. The deceased woman’s family alleged dowry harassment and abetment to suicide by her in-laws, while the Singh family claimed she was struggling with drug addiction. Meanwhile, the police registered an FIR against Singh and his mother under Sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
