Trinamool Congress chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday (June 16, 2026) filed an election petition before the Calcutta High Court, challenging the poll result in the Bhabanipur Assembly seat she lost to BJP's Suvendu Adhikari.

Assembly election was held on May 4. CM Adhikari, who won both Bhabanipur and Nadigram seats this year, resigned from the Nandigram Assembly seat, He had won Nandigram by defeating Trinamool Congress candidate Pabitra Kar by 9,665 votes.
