Speaking at the India Today Conclave in Goa, Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte highlighted the state's transition from traditional beach tourism to a broader developmental philosophy. He addressed the challenges facing international tourism, such as global aircraft shortages and volatile fuel costs, but emphasized that domestic tourism is experiencing a major transformation. Khaunte discussed the "Goa Beyond Beaches" initiative, which focuses on heritage, culture, spirituality, wellness, and culinary experiences.
He noted, "If you come to Goa only for the beaches, you are leaving with half the story." Khaunte explained that Goa has become the first Indian state to formally embrace regenerative tourism, a model where local communities and women-led homestays are key stakeholders. He also highlighted the state's progressive airline incentive frameworks and investments in a two-airport ecosystem to improve connectivity.
