Tehran [Iran], June 14 (ANI): Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on Sunday said that the recent conflict involving the United States had demonstrated that "regional security cannot be based on eliminating or ignoring Iran" Iran-US Peace Deal: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday said that Iran’s nuclear programme will be discussed only in the final stage of negotiations with the United States, signalling that key differences between the two sides remain unresolved despite a preliminary peace agreement, Al Arabiya reported. As per the news outlet, Araghchi said that a new round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran will begin in Switzerland on Friday, when the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries formally comes into effect.
The Iranian foreign minister also warned that any Israeli attack on Lebanon or occupation of territory would constitute a violation of the agreement reached with the United States. Araghchi’s remarks came hours after US President Donald Trump asserted that Iran had agreed never to acquire a nuclear weapon. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Iran has agreed to never have a Nuclear Weapon," while also dismissing reports that the US would pay Iran $300 million as part of the deal. The comments underscore continuing uncertainty over the exact terms of the preliminary agreement, which was reached to end hostilities and open the door to broader negotiations between the two countries. While the White House has defended the agreement, concerns have reportedly emerged within sections of Trump’s national security team. According to an Axios report published on Monday, CIA Director John Ratcliffe told Trump and other senior officials that intelligence assessments had raised serious doubts about Iran’s willingness to make the nuclear concessions being sought by Washington in a final agreement.
The report said Ratcliffe shared these concerns during internal meetings held before the announcement of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding. Available details of the MoU indicate it could include sanctions relief, the release of frozen Iranian assets and financial assistance for reconstruction if Tehran meets agreed benchmarks. However, questions remain over how Iran’s nuclear programme will be addressed, including verification mechanisms and the fate of highly enriched uranium stockpiles. Iranian media reports have indicated that negotiations on a final agreement, including the nuclear issue, will take place during a 60-day period following the formal signing of the MoU in Switzerland on Friday.
