The Bangladeshi national is stranded in no-man’s land alongside India-Bangladesh border. Tension has escalated along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya’s Mahendraganj after a Bangladeshi national was allegedly left stranded in no-man’s land following a Border Security Force (BSF) pushback operation. According to reports, BSF personnel pushed the individual back through the area near Border Pillar No. 1078 after apprehending him for allegedly entering India illegally via the Meghalaya border.
However, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), along with residents on the Bangladeshi side, allegedly refused to accept the individual after the pushback. As a result, the man has reportedly remained stranded in the no-man’s land between the border fences, triggering a stand-off and heightening tensions in the Mahendraganj sector of Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills district. The situation arose after he was sent back in accordance with established procedures, but was allegedly not received by the Bangladeshi authorities.
55-Year-Old Man Gets Stranded In No-Man’s Land This incident happened days after a 55-year-old man was stranded in the no-man’s land along the India-Bangladesh border at Nandirchar in Mahendraganj, Meghalaya. Indian authorities had made an attempt to hand over the man to Bangladesh after he was found allegedly entering India illegally. However, personnel of the BGB, along with residents from the border areas of Bangladesh, initially refused to accept him as their citizen. The nearly 20-hour standoff came to an end after Bangladesh finally agreed to accept its citizen.
