Rapid Read Sevilla's Rafa Mir (X) Sevilla forward Rafa Mir has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison after a Spanish court found him guilty of sexual assault and bodily harm, according to the Valencian Community High Court of Justice. The ruling was announced on Monday following a trial that concluded on May 28. The provincial court of Valencia convicted the 28-year-old striker of one count of sexual assault and one count of bodily harm.
The decision can still be appealed. A second defendant, described as a friend of Mir, was also convicted in the case. He received a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for sexual assault and an offence against moral integrity, along with a fine for a minor bodily harm offence. The court also ordered Mir to pay the victim €64,000 (approximately $74,000) in compensation. According to the court, the offences occurred on September 1, 2024, at Mir’s home in the Valencian town of Bétera. The incident took place after Mir and his friend met two women at a nightclub earlier that evening. Mir pleaded not guilty throughout the proceedings. The striker emerged through the youth ranks of Valencia CF before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018.
He later joined Sevilla FC in 2021 and returned to Valencia on loan in July 2024. Following his arrest in September 2024, Valencia suspended Mir for two matches. He spent the 2025-26 season on loan with Elche CF while the legal proceedings continued. Mir has also represented Spain at various youth international levels during his career.
