(Reuters) In a significant breakthrough, the United States and Iran have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the ongoing war.
The document was signed by US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, a senior US official told Reuters. The official also said the details of the agreement would be released within the next 24-48 hours, and technical discussions would be launched later in the week. The deal provides for an immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz and lifting of the US blockade on Iran. Speaking alongside French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, Trump said the deal with Iran was “all signed", and a formal signing ceremony would take place in Geneva, Switzerland on June 19, which will be attended by Vice President JD Vance.
