District Collector Sumit Kumar on Monday (June 15, 2026) urged the people to adopt regular yoga practice for better physical and mental well-being, highlighting that yoga should be an integral part of everyday life. The Collector was participating in a “Temple Yoga” programme organised at the foot of the Puligundeswara Swamy Hillock Temple, twin rocks near Penumuru, 25 km from Chittoor, ahead of the International Yoga Day.
The Tourism and Education Departments jointly organised the programme, with active participation from yoga practitioners, students, senior citizens, government officials, and local residents. A series of yoga asanas and breathing exercises were performed under the guidance of trained instructors in the temple surroundings. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector observed that yoga holds immense power to offer an effective remedy for the growing stress, anxiety, and lifestyle-related ailments.
“Everyone in society should embrace yoga not as a one-time event or seasonal activity but as a lifelong discipline. Yoga holds the capability to improve overall health and quality of life,” he said. The Collector said that the district administration had launched extensive initiatives to popularise yoga through awareness programmes and training sessions across urban and rural areas.
“Maintaining good health requires a combination of yoga, walking, and healthy food habits. All age groups, from students to senior citizens, should dedicate time daily to yoga and make it a permanent part of their routine,” he said.
