Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State spokesperson G. Bhanuprakash Reddy has filed a criminal complaint in the court of the IV Additional Judicial Magistrate of First Class against actor Prakash Raj for his alleged remarks about Lord Rama and the epic Ramayana. A member of the TTD trust board, Mr. Reddy arrived at the court complex along with his advocate and the party’s legal wing member, K.
Ajay Kumar, on Monday (June 15, 2026) to file the complaint. The ‘inflammatory’ statements made by the actor were allegedly expressed during the Kerala Literature Festival, which later went viral on social media platforms. “The comment was malicious in nature and the content was highly inflammatory. The actor had intentionally depicted the sacred epic Ramayana in poor light to cause outrage among the Hindu community,” he told the reporters.
Bhanuprakash had previously served a legal notice on Prakash Raj and also filed police complaints in Tirupati. However, since there was no action taken, he filed a criminal complaint in court on Monday. The complainant also highlighted Prakash Raj’s mention of the ‘unfounded’ and ‘divisive’ Aryan-Dravidian theory in his talk, which incited regional animosity and undermined India’s cultural and religious
unity. According to him, the statement would attract Section 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings of any class by insulting its religious beliefs) and Section 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, and acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023.
