The United States and Iran have agreed on a ceasefire to end the ongoing conflict in the Strait of Hormuz. The truce pact, known as the Islamabad Memorandum, is expected to be signed in Geneva on the nineteenth of June. Following the agreement, commercial and maritime trade vessels, including an Indian gas tanker, have started moving out of the region. Iran will begin clearing sea mines using conventional minesweepers and underwater drones, an operation expected to take forty to fifty days.
The agreement includes the lifting of the United States naval blockade against Iran within thirty days and allows free movement of ships for sixty days during negotiations. The Indian government welcomed the understanding, highlighting hopes for regional stability and secure global trade routes. However, Israel has rejected the fourteen-clause truce agreement. The Israeli government stated the deal does not bind their nation, ruled out withdrawal from captured territories, and warned of retaliation against any future attacks.
