Kakinada Superintendent of Police G. Bindhu Madhav on Monday said no leads have emerged so far to help in tracing two-year-old Sunkara Gnaneswari, who has been missing since June 6 from S. Agraharam village of Tuni mandal in Kakinada district. Speaking to the media after reviewing the ongoing search operation, the SP said; “Search operations and technical investigation of the phone calls data in the vicinity of the girl’s house are being carried out simultaneously.
However, no clue has emerged about the presence of the girl.” Bindhu Madhav added that the Forest Department personnel has been tasked with examining the possibility of a wildlife attack on the toddler in the oil palm plantation. The department is leading a drone-based search operation, while teams from the Disaster Response Forest (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the local police are also involved in the search operation.
“The search beyond the 10 kilometres radius of the girl’s house remains challenging given the dense green cover. However, search operations are progressing round-the-clock”, said Mr. Bindhu Madhav. Referring to the death of the pet dog, that had accompanied the toddler when she went missing and was later found dead on June 13, Mr. Bindhu Madhav said that the dog is suspected to have died due to ‘dehydration’ as it strayed in the forest for more than three days without access to food and water since June 6.
However, the forensic report of the dog is yet to be released. The police have announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for information regarding the missing girl.
