A 32-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband in front of their two children at their residence near Pushpanjali Theatre under the Mahadevapura Police Station limits on Sunday night. The victim has been identified as Manjula, who was serving as a Home Guard attached to Mahadevapura Police Station. The accused, Pradeep, her husband, allegedly attacked her with a knife around 9 p.m. after coming to her parental home, where she had been staying due to marital disputes.
According to the police, Pradeep was addicted to online betting and had suffered severe financial losses. Before the murder, he reportedly recorded a video stating that his betting habit had ruined his family and that both he and his wife would die. Investigators said Pradeep had come to meet Manjula under the pretext of seeking forgiveness and requesting her to return home. He allegedly fell at her feet and pleaded with her, but suddenly pulled out a knife concealed inside his jacket and launched a brutal attack.
The police said the accused stabbed Manjula multiple times in the presence of their two children. Family members alleged that Pradeep frequently harassed his wife, suspected her character, and even questioned the paternity of their children. Unable to bear the alleged abuse, Manjula had moved to her parental home. After the attack, Pradeep allegedly attempted to end his life by slashing his own hand with the knife. He initially fled the scene, triggering a police manhunt.
However, the Mahadevapura police later traced and arrested him. The victim’s body was shifted for post-mortem examination, and a case has been registered at Mahadevapura Police Station for further investigation.
