Haryana Congress flays Chief Minister Saini over his frequent visits to Punjab

The Congress on Monday (June 15, 2026) hit out at Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, accusing him of prioritising Punjab’s politics over his own State’s people, pointing out that while Haryana’s farmers, youth, employees and traders were left struggling with unresolved problems, Mr. Saini was busy in neighbouring Punjab. The next Assembly election is due in Punjab in early 2027. “It appears that Mr. Saini is more interested in the politics of Punjab than in addressing the problems of Haryana,” Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Rao Narendra Singh said in a statement.
“The people of Haryana want to know why the Chief Minister’s attention is repeatedly focused on Punjab, while serious issues concerning farmers, youth, employees, traders, and ordinary citizens in Haryana remain unaddressed,” he added. “Unemployment, inflation, law and order concerns, farmers’ issues, and several developmental challenges in Haryana are still awaiting effective solutions. The State government has failed to provide satisfactory answers to these pressing concerns. Against this background, the Chief Minister spending a significant amount of time on the politics of a neighbouring State raises serious questions about his priorities,” Mr. Singh said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana had failed to win the confidence of the people on the basis of its performance and achievements, Mr. Singh said. “This is why the Chief Minister now appears more active in Punjab, trying to strengthen the BJP’s organisation and searching for political ground there. However, Punjab’s social, cultural, and political identity has always been rooted in brotherhood, harmony, and the spirit of Punjabiyat, where divisive and communal politics have never found acceptance,” the Congress leader said. Saini should first fulfil his responsibilities towards the people of Haryana, who have elected him to work for Haryana’s development and to resolve the State’s problems, and not to play an active role in the politics of other States, Mr. Singh said.
“The Congress party will continue to raise issues concerning public interest, and will hold the BJP government accountable before the people for its anti-public policies and administrative failures,” Mr. Singh said.
