At least four people were killed and 23 others injured after Russia launched its heaviest air assault on Kyiv in two weeks, triggering air raid alerts and forcing residents to seek shelter. According to Ukrainian authorities, waves of drones and missiles struck several districts of the capital, damaging high-rise apartment buildings, electricity infrastructure, and leaving nearly 140,000 residents without power. A fire also broke out at the historic Pechersk Lavra monastery, one of Ukraine's most significant spiritual and cultural landmarks.
The latest bombardment prompted neighbouring Poland, a NATO and EU member, to scramble fighter jets amid concerns over a potential airspace incursion. The attack comes as diplomatic efforts to end the war continue. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had spoken with US President Donald Trump about steps toward a possible resolution to the conflict ahead of the G7 summit in France.
