Hezbollah has thanked Tehran for insisting Lebanon be included in the deal. “The United States must honour its commitments. It must ensure that the Zionist regime also respects its own regarding Lebanon," foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said in a press briefing, while adding that Tehran “neither trusts Israel nor the United States".
A peace agreement between the United States and Iran is set to be formally signed in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 19, marking a major step toward ending a conflict that has roiled the Middle East for more than 100 days. Check for Live Updates US President Donald Trump announced the breakthrough on social media on Sunday, declaring that the deal with Iran was complete and authorising the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz alongside the lifting of the US naval blockade. The announcement came after a tense day in which Tehran had vowed retaliation following an Israeli strike targeting Iran-backed Hezbollah in the suburbs of Beirut. Following the announcement, Hezbollah thanked Iran for insisting Lebanon be included in the deal to end the West Asia war. AFP quoted the group saying in a statement, “Hezbollah expresses its profound gratitude" to Iran’s leaders, forces and people “for their steadfast support of Lebanon, its people and its resistance, and for their insistence that Lebanon be included in any understanding leading to the cessation of war".
It also warned that it “will not accept any aggression that violates its country’s sovereignty or spills the blood of its people" while vowing it would “remain committed to Lebanon’s legitimate and unwavering right to defend its land, people and sovereignty until a full (Israeli) withdrawal is achieved and the prisoners are returned". Meanwhile, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has said the negotiations for a final deal will be held during a 60-day period, after verifying that the US implemented its commitments under the deal, including ending hostilities, lifting the blockade, and releasing frozen assets. Details of the agreement have not been officially released. However, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported that the United States would release $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets before formal negotiations begin.
