Ahmedabad cybercrime police have arrested a Bihar-based individual for orchestrating a cyber fraud targeting medical entrance exam aspirants. The accused exploited vulnerabilities in the exam portal, specifically the lack of two-factor authentication on the password reset feature, using brute force techniques to hack into student accounts. By altering bank account details, the fraudster successfully diverted refund payments of approximately seventeen hundred rupees each from over one hundred and fifty candidates into personal accounts.
In a related development, authorities apprehended two individuals from Rajasthan for operating fake social media channels. These suspects falsely claimed to possess question papers for the upcoming re-examination, luring candidates into paying for premium access via digital transactions. Police have confirmed that no actual question papers were leaked and the integrity of the upcoming examination remains secure. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the fraudulent operations and are advising candidates to remain vigilant against such online scams.
