AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, directly blaming US President Donald Trump for the deaths of three Indian seafarers killed in a US strike on the Palau-flagged tanker MT Settebello off the Oman coast. Read Full Story In a video message and accompanying social media post, the AAP leader criticised Modi for publicly thanking Trump while tensions over the incident continued. Kejriwal alleged that the government had failed to strongly defend India's interests and demanded accountability for the deaths of the sailors. He said future Indian leadership should ensure that no foreign power can act against Indian citizens without consequences.
"Donald Trump, you will be held accountable for the Indian lives lost. You are a cowardly, cold-blooded murderer," read his tweet. He also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for remaining silent on the issue, alleging that the government had failed to adequately defend India's interests. Kejriwal asserted that India would one day have leadership that would seek accountability for actions that resulted in the deaths of Indian citizens. "It is unfortunate that PM Modi remains silent, but soon, India will have a strong Prime Minister who will make you pay for your misdeeds," he added. The US military struck the vessel's engine room after claiming it violated a blockade on Iranian oil shipments; India protested strongly, summoned the US diplomat twice, and is arranging to bring the bodies home while 21 other Indian crew were rescued. "India needs strong leadership. No foreign leader should be allowed to act with impunity when it comes to India's interests and the lives of its citizens," Kejriwal said.
