(Image: PTI) The Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has come under sharp criticism following the death of a three-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted in Tiruvallur district, triggering outrage across the state and raising fresh concerns over the safety of women and children. The case has intensified scrutiny of the TVK government, particularly in light of its recent launch of the “Singappenn" women’s safety force, an initiative announced by CM Vijay soon after assuming office to strengthen protection mechanisms for women and girls. TVK Government Under Fire Opposition leaders condemned the crime and questioned the government’s ability to curb sexual offences, which they said have become a growing concern in the state. Reacting sharply to the incident, DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi launched a blistering attack on the ruling TVK, saying the regime is being “run by those who don’t know the meaning of the word responsibility." — Kanimozhi (கனிமொழி) (@KanimozhiDMK) June 15, 2026 DMK’s Kanimozhi Slams Vijay Regime She added that the incident has left her heart “frozen in shock." In a post on X, she stated, “Hearing the news that a three-year-old child was subjected to sexual abuse by anti-social elements in Kummidipoondi and thrown into a bush has left my heart frozen in shock.
All women, please take care of yourselves and your children safely. This state is being governed in such a way that one begins to doubt whether there is any government at all. In a regime run by those who don’t know the meaning of the word ‘responsibility,’ what can the public do other than ensure their own safety?" Opposition Demands Tough Action DMK leader TKS Elangovan called for stronger intervention by the government and stringent punishment for those responsible. “The government should be strict on these incidents. Punishment should be severe. This is a social issue. The government should concentrate on it," he said. BJP Criticises TVK Over Crime Against Women Furthermore, BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan launched a scathing attack on the state government, accusing it of failing to ensure the safety of children despite repeated assurances. தமிழக…— Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan (@DrTamilisai4BJP) June 15, 2026 “The incident in Kummidipoondi where a three-year-old child was sexually assaulted and thrown into a bush is heart-wrenching… In Tamil Nadu, which is supposed to nurture those who come. The fact that a child from another state was crushed and discarded fills us with pain… The words of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister @CMOTamilnadu, who keeps saying he will ensure the safety of girl children, are just floating in the air…," she tweeted. “The lionesses of Tamil Nadu have been unable to rein in these human wolves that bite and maul tiny children.. Unable to even track them down… We strongly condemn this. The fact that sexual violence is turning into an ongoing saga is a matter of extreme concern… I urge the Tamil Nadu government to take an iron-fisted approach and punish these merciless human beasts….," she further wrote.
