Delhi Weather: Rain Brings Relief From Heat, IMD Predicts More Showers Till June 19 Published By, Last Updated: June 15, 2026, 15:00 IST Delhi woke up to steady rainfall on Monday as the IMD forecast continued wet weather across northwest India till June 19, bringing relief from heat and lower temperatures. Rapid Read News18 Delhi woke up to steady rainfall on Monday as an active western disturbance continued to influence weather conditions across northwest India, bringing cloudy skies, cooler temperatures and relief from the heat. The showers followed forecasts of a prolonged wet spell across the region. Weather experts have indicated that light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue over the coming days, keeping temperatures in check. India Meteorological Department (IMD) scientist Naresh Kumar said the weather system currently positioned over North Haryana is expected to move forward gradually, leading to a slight easing of rainfall activity across northwest India. However, intermittent rain and strong winds are likely to persist in several areas.
Over the past few days, Delhi and other parts of northwest India have witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall due to the combined influence of the western disturbance and moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. The interaction of these weather systems brought significant rainfall to states such as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while wind speeds touched 60-70 kmph in some places. Despite a likely decline in rainfall intensity, light to moderate showers are expected to continue across much of the region. A yellow alert remains in place for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Haryana, while strong winds are forecast in parts of Rajasthan. The wet spell is expected to continue across northwest India until June 19. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand are likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall between June 13 and June 19, while similar conditions are forecast in Himachal Pradesh from June 14 to June 19.
In the plains, including Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and West Uttar Pradesh, isolated to scattered rainfall is likely through June 19. East Uttar Pradesh may receive rain on June 13 and again between June 18 and 19. West Rajasthan is expected to witness rainfall from June 13 to 17 and once more on June 19. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir during June 13-14, while Uttarakhand may continue to witness similar conditions through June 15. Parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and West Uttar Pradesh may also experience thunderstorms and gusty winds. Similar weather activity is expected in East Rajasthan from June 16-19 and in West Rajasthan on June 15-17 and June 19. Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in East Uttar Pradesh on June 13. Thunder squalls with wind speeds of 60-70 kmph, gusting up to 80 kmph, are expected over West Rajasthan on June 13 and East Rajasthan through June 14.
