A three-year-old child was raped and murdered in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district, sparking outrage over the state's law and order situation under the current government. The victim, whose parents are migrant workers, was lured by a nineteen-year-old accused with a five-rupee biscuit packet. The child was later found in a nearby bush and succumbed to her injuries at a hospital. Police investigations confirmed that the crime was committed by a single accused, ruling out initial reports of a gang rape.
The accused was apprehended by local residents and handed over to the authorities. In a separate development, the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party is reportedly considering a leadership change following the exit of its former state president. A central committee meeting attended by the Home Minister and state leaders discussed appointing a new state president to better connect with the younger generation.
Several young leaders have emerged as potential candidates to succeed the current state president.
