Bhopal Four passengers, including three women and a child, who got off a train that had halted after rumours of a fire and panic were run over by another train speeding past on adjacent tracks in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district late Saturday.Officials said Udaipur Intercity Express, which had started from Gwalior, was stopped after rumours spread among passengers about the blaze in one of its unreserved general coaches.Panic-stricken passengers reportedly began to disembark in a rush and gathered along the tracks.
Around the same time, Patalkot Express was passing on the adjacent line towards Dholpur. Some of the passengers who had stepped onto the tracks apparently failed to notice the approaching train, leading to the four being hit and dying on the spot, the officials said.The accident triggered chaos at the site and caused further panic.
Rail officials were alerted soon. Authorities have initiated the process of identifying the deceased and informing their families.Railway authorities and police have launched investigations to
ascertain exactly how and where the fire rumours started and the circumstances that led to the accident, the officials said.
