An Right to Information (RTI) query has revealed that the proposed Artificial Intelligence (AI) township project in Bidadi, Karnataka, could lead to a massive loss of green cover, threatening over two lakh trees. The project zone is estimated to affect over 87,000 coconut trees, 83,000 other trees, 12,500 mango trees, and three lakh banana plants.
This has triggered significant environmental concerns. Opposition parties, including the BJP and the JDS, have criticized the state government, alleging a real estate nexus and accusing the administration of eyeing profits rather than development. They have also questioned the silence of a prominent national Congress leader, who had recently raised ecological concerns over a project in Nicobar, pointing to alleged double standards on environmental conservation.
