Commercial flight operations have officially commenced at the Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. The inaugural Indigo flight from Lucknow landed at the newly constructed facility, marking a significant milestone for regional connectivity. The flight is scheduled to continue its journey to Bengaluru. In a notable gesture, one hundred and seventy-two farmers who provided their land for the airport's construction boarded one of the initial flights to Lucknow to meet the state's Chief Minister.
The first phase of the airport, built at a cost of eleven thousand two hundred crore rupees, features an annual passenger capacity of one point two crore. Once fully completed, the project will cost twenty-nine thousand five hundred sixty crore rupees and accommodate seven crore passengers annually across six planned runways. The new airport aims to decongest Delhi's IGI Airport, boost aviation capacity in the Capital Region, and cater to cities in Western Uttar Pradesh like Agra and Mathura while improving logistics and cargo movement.
