US Vice President JD Vance plans to travel to Geneva on Friday for the signing ceremony of the US-Iran peace agreement, with a possibility of President Donald Trump attending after the G7 Summit. The agreement marks the end of a three-month conflict that began on February 28. A major outcome of the deal is the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the United States naval blockade.
This development provides significant relief to energy-dependent economies like India, as the free flow of oil is expected to lower crude, fuel, and LPG prices. The reopening also ends attacks on commercial ships, ensuring safe global shipping. Following the signing of the memorandum of understanding, the US and Iran will engage in a 60-day negotiation period to discuss unresolved issues, including Iran's nuclear and missile programs. The agreement averts a wider regional war and stabilizes global energy markets.
