The United States and Iran have agreed on a peace deal to formally end the ongoing West Asia war. The agreement, announced on Donald Trump's eightieth birthday, includes the complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iran. Trump stated: 'Let the oil flow,' highlighting the restoration of global energy supply lines. The peace deal is scheduled to be signed in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 19.
Following the signing, the US and Iran will commence sixty days of talks regarding sanctions relief, Iran's missile programme, and nuclear enrichment. Initial drafts indicate Iran will halt nuclear weapon development for fifteen to twenty years. While the global community has welcomed the breakthrough, Israel remains a potential roadblock. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly not agreed to suspend military operations in Lebanon or withdraw forces from the southern region, despite discussions with the US president.
